We're handing over the reigns of our Instagram account this weekend to Kim Fuller, a visiting writer from the Vail Valley. She's a Colorado native, so it’s in her blood to make playing in the mountains a priority. As a freelance writer and photojournalist, Kim also makes a point to take world travels and indulge her wanderlust spirit. When she’s not diligently writing in the Vail Valley, teaching yoga around town or finding a new adventure, find Kim at the local eateries and craft breweries, where she enjoys the more indulgent side of inspiration. We asked her a few questions over the weekend to get to know her a little better. Here are her answers.
Why do you like to visit the Gunnison Valley? I am from the Colorado mountains, and after living abroad and traveling post-journalism school, I landed back here because it is home, and always will be. I live in Minturn, near Vail, so about four hours from Crested Butte. This will actually be the first time I have been to Gunnison and CB in the summer, and I can’t wait to visit. I am looking forward to the mountain bike festival and exploring some great trails.
What's your favorite thing to do in the Valley? I love spending mornings being active in the mountains in and around Gunnison and Crested Butte, and then enjoying an afternoon strolling, eating and people watching.
What kind of camera do you use? For Instagram, I use my iPhone mostly! I do have a really nice, but not super new, Canon 40D SLR that I break out for photography work, travel articles, special occasions, etc.
What's your favorite piece of gear? Right now, I am loving my Sierra Designs Mountain Mummy Sleeping Bag. You can put your arms through holes, and even free your feet, you can wear it around camp like a big, puffy blanket. It’s SO warm and cozy, but not so much that I feel stuck in it. In fact, when I am in it, I never want to come out of it!
Sunrises or Sunsets? Sunrise always feels so special, because I don’t see it as often. When I am up for a sunrise, I am usually doing something amazing, like climbing a mountain, and the whole experience is so inspiring.
